Vitals, the doctor review site

Vitals is the “Rate My Professors” of the medical worldminus the chili peppers for “hotness”. Instead, Vitals offers a quick way to make sure your doctor has a strong history of patient satisfaction. The site will obviously alert you to any lawsuits currently pending or in the past of the doctor, but this information is usually not difficult to find. Vitals also offers an easy way for patients to review their basic satisfaction with a doctor. If their bedside manner is off, or if their prescriptions are unhelpful, you’ll find it here.Vitals offers two choices: either checking up on your existing doctor or finding the best one for your current needs. The check-up feature is simple enough, allowing you to enter name and location to quickly find your physician. The find-a-doctor function lets your search by symptoms to find a doctor who can easily help you. If you already know the specialty of the doctor you’re searching for, you can also enter that. Vitals will then provide a list of the closest doctors along with their user reviews, certifications, awards, and other information. Read the rest of this entry »

MEDgleonline health database and search engine

The name should give you an indication of what MEDgle is going for. Just like its illustrious namesake, MEDgle seeks to be a full-service search engine, but specifically for the medical field. It combines the best of a number of other sites like WebMD and Doctors Lounge but picks up where those left off by allowing patients to search for a doctor who will best search their needs. The process begins by allowing users to select symptoms, diagnoses, drugs, procedures, or physicians from an easy-to-use graphical map. Simply by clicking on the area of the body, the organ, or the health area of interest, a drop-down menu opens up showing the available symptoms for that area. You can add symptom upon symptom to create your specific health profile. Once you’ve completed this, MEDgle will show you what the most likely diagnosis is. Read the rest of this entry »

“Doctors Lounge” offers free medical community

WebMD‘s four in-house MDs are impressive, but Doctors Lounge offers the ability to interact with a much larger group of doctors via message boards. The Lounge’s main draw is its forums, which are divided up by specialty/area of affliction. Users can browse the various forums to see the questions that have already been answered by the Doctors Lounge’s extensive support team of medical professionals. If this doesn’t provide the needed info, users can create a free account and ask their specific question.Doctors also have the option of posting blogs and articles online. These can cover whatever that doctor’s specialty is, from antidepressants to how changes in residency requirements are affecting medical students. Rest assured that joining Doctors Lounge’s support team requires an application and proof of being a medical professional. Despite the pedigree of the Doctors Lounge team, however, the site still maintains that all information is meant to “support, not replace” actual visitation with a doctor.
