Good health allows people to live life to the fullest. One of the best things that people can do to keep themselves healthy is see their doctors on a regular basis. People who are healthy should see their doctors once a year for a check-up. Annual checkups help detect problems before they become serious. Physicians can also offer tips on what people can do to keep themselves healthy. Additionally, females who are over the age of 18 should see a gynecologist once a year for a pap smear.

Those who have medical conditions may need to go to the doctor more often. People who notice something different about themselves need to go to the doctor immediately. It must be reiterated that problems are much easier to treat if they are detected early. The longer one waits to seek medical attention, the worse the problem will become.

Good health is something that far too many people take for granted. There is an old quote that says “that the greatest wealth is health.” Good health is something that a price cannot be put on. People can keep themselves healthy and free of disease by seeing a doctor at least once a year for a check-up.Still bored?

Whether it is planned or unplanned, nothing is more daunting then having medical expenses to pay, but knowing the best steps to take in paying them can ease the painful bill.

Bill Your Insurance

If you have medical insurance, you first want to bill them. Most doctors and hospitals automatically bill your insurance but make sure everything was billed properly. Save all your medical receipts and match them against your Explanation of Benefits the insurance company sends you. If something was not covered or billed, call your insurance company and ask why. Look Over Your Medical receipts

Doctor offices and hospitals are run by humans and humans can make mistakes. If something does not look right on your bill, call them. It is better to take the time and have a charge removed then be billed for something you did not have done.

Find an Assistance Program

Whether it is a government, doctor, or hospital, most medical places offer some type of low income assistance program. These programs will help reduce how much you have to pay. Even if you think your income is too high, it does not hurt to check into it.

Ask for a Payment Plan

Finally, call your doctor’s or hospital’s payment center and ask for a payment plan that suites your needs. Most will try to get you to pay off your bill within a year depending on how much you owe. Even if you agree to a high monthly bill you cannot afford, call them regularly to update them on what you can afford to avoid being sent to a collections. The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: How to Deal With Big Medical Bills

Ever shave your knuckle by accident while peeling carrots, or bump your shin into that coffee table which always seems to sneak up on you? We wince because we know what’s about to happen next, PAIN. Pain is a good thing because it lets us know when something’s wrong. It’s also the body’s way of withdrawing, and protecting, the affected body part from further damage. As much as we dislike this inevitable misery, it’s expected.

So, when is pain something to worry about?

If you suffer what you thought was a minor injury, but the pain lasts longer than expected, or it starts to increase in intensity over time; this is when you should seek medical attention. What you thought was just a twisted ankle could be a severe sprain, or maybe even a broken bone.

The sudden onset of acute pain – with no known injury – is another cue that something’s not right. Pain, anywhere in your body, that is sharp, burning, or unusually strong is a sign that something more serious could be happening. Medical evaluation should be immediate under these circumstances.

Pain may or may not be something to worry about, but it should never be ignored.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat and that goes for the web, too. If you’re looking for medical information on your wireless internet connection you may find yourself overwhelmed with all the information out there. Here are a few tips and tricks for staying on the right track:
Get on Message Boards: If you’re seeking preliminary information on a disease or symptoms you’ve got to get online to the chat rooms to see what other people are saying. Don’t take their advice for a doctor’s, though, and always get the final word from a professional.
Check out the Big Sites: Sites like WebMD are great for learning more about a specific condition or medicine and they’re relatively reliable, too. Get online and do some research before you approach your doctor so you feel well informed.
Email Your Doctor: If your doctor allows, email him or her to ask about specific symptoms. They probably prefer communicating this way because it’s less intrusive and you can even set up an appointment online if necessary.

When looking for trustworthy information on the internet, the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health are two organizations that you’re happy to see on the homepage. That’s the case with MedlinePlus (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/). Not only will you find information on all the latest drugs and medicines, but you can find information about diseases and symptoms as well.NLM Director Dr. Donald A.B. Lindberg recognizes that the internet can be an important resource for people in need of health advice. However, MedlinePlus also realizes that much of the information out there cannot be verified or accounted for. Their “Guide to Healthy Web Surfing” teaches caution when looking for information, including looking for evidence, currency, ulterior (especially commercial) motives, and more. Depending on your learning style, you may find the “Evaluating Internet Health Information” interactive tutorial helpful. This short (16-minute) program doesn’t require any downloads other than Flash version 8 or higher, and teaches users how to find the best and most current information on any health topic they desire. As always, your doctor should always be a reliable resource as well, even if he points you to another, more specific source.

If you’ve lived in America for the last few years, the chances are you’ve heard of the site WebMD. It has become the go-to guide for anybody wanting to know more about a certain set of symptoms. The company behind the site, WebMD Health, was founded in 2005 and quickly started making a name for itself. When you go the WebMD’s home page, you find a search box which lets you search the entire site, a list of symptoms, or doctors. In addition, there is a sidebar with a list of conditions which you can research on your own. Finally, there is a variety of news articles and featurescurrently, these include “The Science Behind Inception” and “How Mushrooms Aid Your Health”.If you’re wondering how much credence to actually give WebMD, you should know that the site’s disclaimer states that “WebMD does not provide medical or any other health care advice, diagnosis or treatment”. However, the data is looked over by a content staff including four medical doctors: Michael W. Smith, Brunilda Nazario, Louise Chang, and Laura J. Martin. These MDs are assisted by 15 other writers and editors. While WebMD may not take the place of an actual doctor’s appointment, it can give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.People have definitely responded to WebMD’s ease of use. In 2007, the site had over 17.1 million average visitors, and that number is likely to have risen by now. The site has also been honored with a variety of awards, including the Webby Awards People’s Voice Winner and the Silver Award in the URAC Best Practices in Health Care awards. You have nothing to lose by checking WebMD out for yourselfjust make sure to corroborate all data with your family physician.

Instead, Vitals offers a quick way to make sure your doctor has a strong history of patient satisfaction. The site will obviously alert you to any lawsuits currently pending or in the past of the doctor, but this information is usually not difficult to find. Vitals also offers an easy way for patients to review their basic satisfaction with a doctor. If their bedside manner is off, or if their prescriptions are unhelpful, you’ll find it here.Vitals offers two choices: either checking up on your existing doctor or finding the best one for your current needs. The check-up feature is simple enough, allowing you to enter name and location to quickly find your physician. The find-a-doctor function lets your search by symptoms to find a doctor who can easily help you. If you already know the specialty of the doctor you’re searching for, you can also enter that. Vitals will then provide a list of the closest doctors along with their user reviews, certifications, awards, and other information. The site itself has also received its fair share of awards, including “Best Doctor Site 2010″ from Money Magazine and “Small Business Excellence AwardFinalist” from Dell. Plus, Vitals is certified by BPA Worldwide. When you’re searching for a doctor, you don’t need any more stress in your life. Let Vitals point you in the right direction to the doctor that’s right for you.

The name should give you an indication of what MEDgle is going for. Just like its illustrious namesake, MEDgle seeks to be a full-service search engine, but specifically for the medical field. It combines the best of a number of other sites like WebMD and Doctors Lounge but picks up where those left off by allowing patients to search for a doctor who will best search their needs. The process begins by allowing users to select symptoms, diagnoses, drugs, procedures, or physicians from an easy-to-use graphical map. Simply by clicking on the area of the body, the organ, or the health area of interest, a drop-down menu opens up showing the available symptoms for that area. You can add symptom upon symptom to create your specific health profile. Once you’ve completed this, MEDgle will show you what the most likely diagnosis is.So far, this is simply another version of WebMD. But MEDgle’s real use comes in allowing you to search for physicians in your area. You’ll also be able to see what the most likely treatment will be for your condition, which can help alleviate nervousness in the waiting room. MEDgle has the numbers to back up its claims, with over 10,000 symptoms, 5,000 drugs, 6,000 procedures, and 2,100 diagnoses available in its database. The developers keep the information continuously updated.MEDgle also offers other features for the interested health searcher, including eNurse Kim (an automated chat in which you can ask basic health questions) and healthiermee (a tool for determining your future health risks based on present-day factors). All of MEDgle’s information complies with the HONcode standard for health info, and the site was also selected as a 2009 Best of the Business Award in Medical Research in 2009. MEDgle offers an easy way to stay informed about your health, even before a crisis hits.

WebMD can tell you what’s wrong with you, but what if you want to stop the problem before it starts? Unless you’re Lance Armstrong, there’s always opportunity for improvement when it comes to personal fitness. SparkPeople is a free diet and fitness website that is really letting the numbers speak for itself. Over 8 million people have become a part of SparkPeopleand the results of their programs are shown on the homepage, which records “Calories Burned”, “Pounds Lost”, “Fitness Minutes”, and “Cups of Water Consumed” for all of its users. On July 26 at 9:27 in the morning, over 13 billion calories had been burned, with over 1 billion fitness minutes. You can start contributing to these numbers by quickly signing up for a free account at SparkPeople, and then tracking your nutrition, fitness, and goals online. But record-keeping is only part of the Spark appeal. The “Healthy Lifestyle” sections contain info on everything from diets to personalizing your workout. It’s also refreshing to see a whole section dedicated to “Motivation”, since SparkPeople recognizes that getting started (and then keeping it up) can be the hardest part.At dailySpark, users can interact with health experts on their blogs, which cover everything from recent health news to the importance of pacing yourself in your fitness program. Equally important is the opportunity to work with other users in SparkTeams. This sense of community can provide a foundation for users looking to build on their current health programs. The most important thing is that SparkPeople has worked for millions of people and has won “Best Health Website” from Business Week in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Members have also been featured on Good Morning America and The Today Show, as well as in People Magazine. If you’re looking to get started changing your life, SparkPeople could be your ignition.

Despite the pedigree of the Doctors Lounge team, however, the site still maintains that all information is meant to “support, not replace” actual visitation with a doctor.Medical students will also find the “Medical Reference” section useful, as will patients who have been diagnosed with a particular disease. It is creating a true community between doctors and the public. In February, the site was named one of the top 10 “Ask an Expert” sites by The Times Online. Visit them today, and you can also subscribe to their Twitter, RSS feed, and newsletter.
